A Mitsubishi Heavy Industries multi split gives you individual control of every room while keeping a single outdoor unit on the property. Each indoor unit can be turned on or off and set to its own temperature, so you are only conditioning the rooms you are actually using. Every system is tested to AS/NZS 3823, exceeds Minimum Energy Performance Standards, and carries a five year parts and labour warranty. RDS Electrics handles the design, the compatibility checks and the installation, so the combination you end up with actually works together.

System Design and Capacity Matching

Multi split design is about matching indoor units to the right outdoor unit, and this is where most installations go wrong. The SCM outdoor range runs from 4.0kW to 10.0kW. The SCM40 and SCM45 take two indoor units, the SCM50 and SCM60 take two to three, the SCM71 and SCM80 take two to four, and the SCM100 takes three to five with a minimum combined connection of 9.0kW. Each outdoor unit also has a maximum allowable indoor capacity, and not every combination is permitted. We work through your room sizes first, then select the outdoor unit that supports the mix you need.

Mitsubishi Multi Split Combinations We Install

One of the real advantages of the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries multi split range is that you are not locked into one style of indoor unit. We install AvantiPlus and Avanti high wall units for bedrooms and smaller rooms, Bronte high wall units for larger open plan areas, Wera floor standing units where wall space is limited, Akari bulkhead units for a concealed ceiling finish, FDTC compact cassettes, and FDUM mid static ducted units. You can mix these across one system, so a single outdoor unit might run a bulkhead in the living area and high wall units through the bedrooms.

Installation and Controls

Our licensed team manages the full installation, including refrigerant pipe routing, indoor and outdoor unit placement, electrical connections and commissioning. Pipe runs are limited to 25 metres to any one indoor unit, with a total system length of 30 to 75 metres depending on the outdoor unit, and a maximum height difference of 15 to 20 metres. We plan these runs before we start so the system performs to specification. Control is through the Smart M Air app on iPhone or Android, which lets you set temperature, mode and fan speed remotely, view power usage, set timers and use voice commands through Google Assistant or Amazon Alexa.

Maintenance and Service Intervals

We recommend an annual service for residential multi split systems and more frequent servicing where the system runs heavily or serves a commercial space. Because a multi split shares one outdoor unit across several rooms, a fault in one part of the system can affect performance elsewhere, so regular checks matter more than they do on a single split. At each service we clean the indoor filters, check coils and fan operation, verify refrigerant levels across the circuit, inspect electrical connections and confirm each indoor unit is responding correctly. Servicing on schedule also keeps the five year parts and labour warranty in place.
